DefCon 644 – Marking of Articles (UK)

The United Kingdom Ministry of Defence (UK MoD) has a series of Defence Conditions (DefCon) which are the physical terms and conditions that are implemented as part of their contracting mechanism to provide standard terms, conditions and clauses.

DefCon 644 calls for Articles (assets) to be “clearly and indelibly” in accordance with the requirements of the DEF-STAN 05-132, as specified in the Contract and that any marking method used shall not have a detrimental effect on the strength, serviceability or corrosion resistance of the asset and in accordance with the Def Stan must be permeant and indelible mark which is globally-unique, item-specific identifier.
